Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Byrne graduated with M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering in Dec 2021, under the supervision of Dr. Swan. After graduation, he has joined Equilibrium Engineering as an Energy Efficiency EIT.

 

Evan Casper

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Evan graduated with Masters of Resource & Environmental Management (M.R.E.M), under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Adams. In Summer 2022, he undertook an LES Placement with Ecofitt. Currently, he works at Ecofitt as a Program Analyst.

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Xingquan will graduate with M.Sc. Electrical & Computer Engineering in Dec 2022, under the supervision of Dr. Micheal Cada & Dr Ghada Koleilat. In Fall 2022, he undertook an LES Placement at Thermo Dynamics.

Sarah graduated with M.Sc Chemistry in Apr 2023, under the supervision of Dr. Erin Johnson. After graduation, she has joined ACENET as an Advanced Digital Skills Instructor.

Rania Elsebai

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Rania is currently an undergraduate Chemical Engineering student, under the supervision of Dr. Koleilat. Her research focuses on investigating the impact of chemical additive engineering treatments on the stability & performance of perovskite solar cells. She is passionate about research pertaining to renewable energy technologies & plans to pursue graduate studies in this field. 

Rania successfully completed the LES Undergraduate Training Program.

Vlad Chiriac

Cohort 2-Summer 2022

Vlad is currently an undergraduate Electrical & Computer Engineering student, under the supervision of Dr. Koleilat. His research focuses on perovskite solar cells. He loves problem solving and hopes that engineering keeps it interesting. On free time, his go-to activities are piano and video games.

Vlad successfully completed the LES Undergraduate Training Program.

Jay Deshmukh

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Jay received his B.Sc. Chemical Engineering in May 2021. He is currently a M.A.Sc. candidate in chemical engineering, supervised by Dr. Freund. His research focuses on desalination batteries (novel energy-efficient & intercalation mechanism-based devices for water desalination) & energy storage.

Jay successfully completed the LES Undergraduate Training Program. Currently, he is an LES Graduate Trainee.

 

Avery Opalka

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Avery is currently an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student under the supervision of Dr. Swan. Her research will focus on the energy storage technologies being explored at the Renewable Energy Storage Laboratory at Dalhousie University. She intends to pursue a career in renewable energy following her undergraduate studies. Avery is from Halifax, and her goal is to stay in Nova Scotia and further its integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid in the coming years.

Avery successfully completed the LES Undergraduate Training Program.

Nicholas Kowalski

Cohort 2-Summer 2022

Nicholas is currently an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student, under the supervision of Dr. Aiken & Dr. Dahn. He is developing new methods to monitor electrolyte expulsion for cylindrical cells that contain silicon.

Nicholas successfully completed the LES Undergraduate Training Program.

Douah Shakshouki

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Douah is currently an undergraduate Electrical Engineering student, under the supervision of Dr. Koleilat. Her research focuses on a project involving wearable sensors. Douah is interested in various research areas including applications in renewable energy, communications, & biomedical engineering.

Emma Taniguchi

Cohort 1-Fall 2021

Emma is currently an undergraduate Environmental Science & Oceanography student, under the supervision of Dr. Adams. Her research focuses on the investigation of environmental racism in relation to the implementation of renewable energy. She is specifically looking into the spatial connection between the placement of hydropower dams & the displacement of Indigenous communities as a result. Emma hopes to bring to light the importance of equity in sustainable innovation, & to ensure future decisions are not made at the expense of vulnerable communities.
